Elections to National and Local Positions in the UAAO

National Executive Council | Regional Coordinators | Local Officers

National Executive Council

The UAAO holds elections for National Executive Council positions each year during Convocation. UAAO members who do not hold any other national position may run for an Executive Council position in the UAAO, and may serve on the Council for up to two years (excluding Ex-Officio officers). The National Executive Council is composed of the following offices:

National Chair
National Vice Chair
National Secretary Treasurer
National Coordinator

This year, Executive Council elections will be held on Friday of Convocation week during the UAAO Board of Governor's meeting. We encourage everyone who is interested to run for office! The Executive Council has been staffed by some exceptionally talented people in recent years, and we are looking for more great people to step into leadership roles to further the goals of the UAAO and AAO!

On a more formal note, the following information is very important for UAAO members seeking Executive Council positions:
     * Students who are running for a national position must be available during Convocation to assist current Executive Council members in their duties, and to familiarize themselves with how the Council operates
     * In accordance with the Bylaws of the UAAO, students who are elected to a national office MUST BE AVAILABLE AND PRESENT ON SUNDAY MORNING FOLLOWING THE ELECTIONS FOR A MEETING BETWEEN OUTGOING AND INCOMING NATIONAL OFFICERS. THIS MEETING IS MANDATORY. UAAO members who cannot be present at this meeting cannot run for a national office

To learn more about the duties and responsibilities of each of these offices, please see Article VII - The UAAO Council, Section 5 - Duties, of the official Bylaws of the UAAO as recorded on pages 8 and 9 of the UAAO Chapter Notebook.

Regional Coordinators

Regional Coordinators are primarily responsible for serving as assistants to the National Coordinator in maintaining communication between the UAAO Executive Council and each local chapter's National Representative. They help to ensure that each local chapter in their respective region utilizes the Visiting Clinician program. They strive to improve communication between the UAAO and its members who are in their clinical years (3rd and 4th year students). Regional Coordinators attend all meetings of the UAAO Board of Governors at Convocation.

There are currently five Regional Coordinator positions across the nation. Regional Coordinators for the upcoming year are selected by the National Executive Council during Convocation.

The following information is very important for UAAO members seeking a Regional Coordinator position:
     * In accordance with the Bylaws of the UAAO, students who are selected as Regional Coordinators MUST BE AVAILABLE AND PRESENT ON SUNDAY MORNING FOLLOWING THE ELECTIONS FOR A MEETING BETWEEN OUTGOING AND INCOMING NATIONAL OFFICERS. THIS MEETING IS MANDATORY. UAAO members who cannot be present at this meeting cannot apply to be Regional Coordinators

UAAO members wishing to be considered as Regional Coordinators must fill out the following application and submit it to the Executive Council by Thursday of Convocation:

Regional Coordinator Application (PDF version)

Regional Coordinator Application (Word version)

Local Officers

Individual UAAO chapters hold annual elections for local offices--usually in February prior to Convocation. Students who are full-dues-paid UAAO members are eligible to run for local positions. Chapter leadership consists of the following offices:

President
Vice President
Secretary
Treasurer

National Representative
Clinical Years Representative

To learn more about the duties and responsibilities of each of these offices, please see Article V - Chapter Officers and Duties of the official Bylaws of the UAAO as recorded on pages 7 and 8 of the UAAO Chapter Notebook, as well as the section entitled "Responsibilities-Chapter Officers" on pages 17 and 18.
