The day after Thanksgiving, popularly called Black Friday, is undoubtedly the largest shopping day of the year, and retailers load up on sales and stock in preparation. In the early 2000s, marketing companies persuaded people to shop the sales online on Cyber Monday, and in 2012, Giving Tuesday was celebrated for the first time. We encourage you to make your Giving Tuesday plans in the spirit of thankfulness that sometimes gets buried by the holiday advertising.
Giving Tuesday is an international day of giving that was initiated by the United Nations Foundation and the 92nd Street Y in New York. It’s a reminder at the beginning of the holiday season to consider the profound impact your gifts can have. This year, Giving Tuesday is Nov. 28. Please consider making a donation to any of the AAO’s funds: the Golden Ram Society, the Nicholas S. Nicholas Fund or the Anne L. Kempf Memorial Fund.
The AAO's Golden Ram Society supports the Academy's general operating fund, allowing the Academy to offer quality educational programs at reasonable rates, develop new programs using new technology and expand the AAO’s public education efforts. Donations to the Nicholas S. Nicholas Fund provide scholarships for students attending the AAO’s annual Convocation, and donations to the Anne L. Kempf Memorial Fund finance continuing medical education opportunities to learn the founding osteopathic principles as taught by Andrew Taylor Still, MD, DO.
There’s no need to wait until Nov. 28 to make your tax-deductible contribution to the AAO. Give early and give often!
