Osteopathic advocacy win: Local coverage determination respects OMT

AAO newsNational Government Services (NGS) has announced that they will continue appropriately paying for OMT along with an office visit as part of the newly revised LCD! This excellent news was announced earlier this morning by Boyd R. Buser, DO, FACOFP, the American Osteopathic Association’s 2016-17 president.

It was noted, and notable, that this campaign was successful owing to the combined efforts of the AOA, involved state associations and the website which generated over 5,000 letters expressing opposition to the proposed LCD rule change that would have made it challenging for practicing osteopathic physicians to get paid for their work with Medicare patients.

I would like to especially thank the members of the American Academy of Osteopathy and the members of its Osteopathic Medical Economics Committee for all of their hard work and advocacy that helped to achieve this result.

This reaffirms my belief that by working together we are able to effect change beneficial to our organization and to protect and improve our livelihoods.

Thank you again for your continued support and for all of the work that you do that may never get recognized but gets appreciated by your patients on a daily basis.

Have a great weekend. You deserve it!
