The American Academy of Osteopathy is an osteopathic medical society with a focused educational mission. Founded in 1937, the AAO was established to teach, advocate and research the science, art and philosophy of osteopathic medicine, emphasizing the integration of osteopathic principles, practices and manipulative treatment in patient care.
Stay abreast of industry news and connect with other osteopathic physicians at continuing medical education events nationwide or online.
Residents and interns stay connected with their colleagues and have input in the Academy’s governance.
Chapters at each osteopathic medical school encourage students to get involved in osteopathic manipulative medicine and osteopathic principles and practice.
Osteopathic physicians (DOs) attend fully licensed medical schools just like MDs, but in addition to the standard medical curriculum, DOs learn how to approach patients differently, treating the whole person rather than the symptoms. In addition, some DOs specialize in osteopathic manipulative treatment (OMT), using their hands to diagnose, treat and prevent illness or injury. Using OMT, they will move your muscles and joints with a variety of techniques, including stretching, gentle pressure and resistance.
In the past several years, the AAO has made efforts to reduce its carbon footprint by reducing the amount of paper we print. This year, we’ve taken a great leap forward with the AAO’s first mobile app for Convocation!
We as the osteopathic profession stand on the brink of the greatest opportunity we have ever seen to bring true osteopathic care to the forefront of medicine in America.
Four authors have agreed to sign books and DVDs during the AAO's 2017 Convocation. Bring your copies with you or purchase copies from the AAO's store at Convocation.
