March 2025 Still PointAuthor: Sara Glaser Chapter: Burrell College of Osteopathic Medicine Description: As an osteopathic medical student, the cirque arts have provided me with both an outlet and a dynamic way to embody and demonstrate the principles of osteopathic medicine. Aerial silks and dance demand not only physical strength and precision but also deep body awareness—echoing the foundational principles of osteopathic medicine. In both disciplines, the body is seen as an interconnected whole, where balance, alignment, and flow are key to health and performance. Training in the air challenges my proprioception and reinforces the importance of structural integrity—concepts I apply in learning OMM. Mentally, cirque reconnects me with joy, creativity, and resilience. The cirque arts allow me to live the osteopathic philosophy: to integrate mind, body, and spirit through movement, healing, and self-expression.
