Course Description

This course is based on the work of Robert Ward, DO, FAAO and enables clinicians to easily access the neuromusculoskeletal feedforward-feedback mechanism through the fascial network.

This course will introduce clinicians to the wonders of the fascia, which is richly innervated and highly influential in muscle function. We'll explore research showing that fascia is considered our largest sensory organ due to its complete surface area. Additionally, we'll discuss how it actively participates in proprioception and nociception.

The diagnostic approach to this course is highly clinically-oriented around overuse and myofascial pain syndromes (i.e., low back pain, epicondylitis, and patellofemoral syndrome), and aims to help participants continuously consider the functional reasons for pain and find function rather than eliminate pain.

This course will help participants learn how myofascial release palpatory and treatment techniques can be used alone or in conjunction with other manual medicine methodologies.

This course also hopes to assist participants in developing the ability to think about specific anatomical areas in three dimensions, both statically and dynamically, and the ability to assess and treat specific myofascial problems.

Course Goals

  • To discipline oneself to continuously consider the functional reasons for one’s pain.
  • To discipline oneself to find function rather than to eliminate pain.
  • To assist the participant in acquiring a working knowledge of how myofascial release palpatory and treatment techniques can be used either alone, or in conjunction with other manual medicine methodologies.
